A Review of 33 Liquor Amnii Analyses during Pregnancy Complicated by Rhesus Incompatibility
نویسنده
چکیده
In rhesus-negative women who have had previous babies severely affected by rhesus incompatibility, the maternal rhesus antibody titre during a subsequent pregnancy offers only a poor indication of the degree to which the developing foetus will be affected. This has induced workers to look for laboratory tests that can give more reliable information. In an attempt to detect excessive haemolysis in the foetus, Walker (1957) made spectrophotometry measurements of the liquor amnii, and found that the amount of yellow pigment that it contained corresponded closely with the degree of anaemia of the baby, as measured by the haemoglobin content of cord blood.

able to retain food of any sort for more than half an hour. This state of things, only slightly relieved by medical treatment, continued up to the time of her confinement. On making an examination, the os was found very slightly dilated, the head presenting, but no trace of the usual bag of liquor amnii. On asking the nurse when the waters had come away, she asserted there had been no discharge...
متن کاملObservations on the bacteriology of the urine and liquor in pregnancy and labour.
URINARY TRACT infections are now among the commonest bacterial infections. In England and Wales some 6,000 to 7,000 patients die every year from uraemia, about 3,000 of them between the ages of 5 and 55 years (Brit. med. J., 1967), and many of these die as the result of chronic urinary tract infection. Pregnant women are particularly prone to such infection both symptomatic and asymptomatic. Th...

A 24-year-old woman who had previously given birth to an infant with Down's syndrome was shown by chromosomal analysis of the liquor amnii to be carrying an infant with trisomy D. Routine examination of serum and liquor alpha-feto protein (AFP) in the antenatal period showed unexpected high levels of both, consistent with a neural tube defect. The fetus, however, did not have evidence of a neur...

It is very difficult to diagnose foetal distress in time. various investigations have been suggested from time to time for determination of intrauterine foetal status. In recent ;years amnioscopic examination to see the physical character of liquor amnii is extensively practised. Saling's (1965) micro-sampling of foetal scalp blood and study of acid-base balance of the 'Same have also raised th...
